“Many tango teachers, some of them excellent dancers who will tell you that tango isn’t about steps, nonetheless focus on steps because they don’t know how to explain or teach movement. Sharon Hillman can see what you need to move like a dancer and gives exercises so your mind and body can get there. I didn’t expect to take tango lessons from an American in Buenos Aires but Sharon teaches in a way no one else here does.”

Executive Editor, Buenos Aires Herald, Buenos Aires, Argentina, 1998

Sharon is a gifted instructor of the Tango, its technique and culture. Like a poet she recognizes and communicates what is essential of the dance in a way that is intensely personal and satisfying. Teaching me Tango, Sharon insisted that I bring to the dance a level of responsibility, intimacy and maturity, that I did not have before. (While I had loads and loads of fun.) For this, and much more, I will always be grateful.

We’ve had tango classes before but Sharon’s our first proper “Tango Mentor”. Sharon made us realize the importance of the link between posture and technique and the steps themselves. She has a nack of getting you to communicate with the internal energy which makes tango “tango”...and a lot of Argentine teachers don’t even recognize that. She teaches tango like it’s not just a dance, but a way of life. She gets you to express yourself through the dance. We’ve had tango classes before but Sharon’s our first proper “Tango Mentor”.

“I learned more from Sharon about ‘the step’ than from any other instructor, American or Argentine.”

Susanne York, tango dancer, Denver, Colorado

“I consider myself very fortunate to have found Sharon Hillman during my stay in Buenos Aires. Her classes were directly responible for my remarkable advancement as a tango dancer. I am anxiously waiting for her to release her video so that I can continue her work at home.”

Rita Carovelli, tango dancer, Rovigo, Italia

I think Sharon’s work is a very interesting complement to the work we do in tango. Based on her own experience, it’s a path to knowing ourselves better. Finding greater knowledge of our own limits and possibilities ultimately helps prepare us for a more gratifying encounter with our dance partner. I think it’s essential and hope other dancers find the same value in it that I did.”
